I have been using the RS100 heart rate monitordaily for almost 7 months now. Very simple to use, has more than enough features, and none of the "gadget" stuff that you never use. I chose the RS100 heart rate monitor because it had features that were very useful, including interval timers, two zone limit monitors, and a back light (great for running at night, or in dim lighting).
Most of the people who complain how difficult a monitor is to use, never bother to read the manual. What a concept! The manual that comes with the RS100 heart rate monitor is very easy to understand. Just read it, and set up your watch the way they describe. It explains all the features simply and clearly.
The ability to set my own heart rate and percentage limits are super because those numbers fluxuate as my fitness increases. Another great help is that the running total records the percent of calories burned from fat, which dramatically improves the efficiency of your training.
It is a running total for just one run at a time, which is perfectly adequate. All my training is kept in an Excel spreadsheet, and I personally think this is more helpful than keeping them in the watch.
By keeping them on a separate spreadsheet, I can create averages and see how I am progressing. I am able to clearly see what is happening with my fitness levels. Models more costly than the RS100 heart rate monitor, allow users to upload logs to the Polar website. The extra expense wasn't worth it to me. I like keeping track of my progress myself.
The large chest strap is perfect for me and stays in place. It is a good idea to slightly wet the transmitters before you put the RS100 heart rate monitor on, it really does not take much moisture. That moisture, in addition to your own perspiration, is more than adequate.
I have heard some runners say that theRS100 heart rate monitor is a little bulky for smaller wrists. which causes a little irritation for some. My wife being one of those runners, but she has created a few steps to help alleviate the problem:
1.She wears it loosely, but not so loose that it spins around randomly. This prevents some of the pressure. It's loose enough that she is able to rotate the face around to the inside of her wrist, if needs to.
2. Quite frequently, she has the watch strapped to her gear belt or she puts in her pocket. She is still able to hear warning beeps if she gets out of zone, She has been able to monitor herself using her hearing instead of her eyes. The beep is easily heard, unless she is listening to loud music.
Frankly, ever since I have started using the RS100 heart rate monitor, my fitness has really shot through the ceiling! Thank you Polar!
